Career Pathways

The IHSS Career Pathways provides training opportunities to IHSS providers in California. The program’s goal is to recruit and retain current IHSS providers while providing training opportunities to enhance providers’ skills and knowledge on how to best care for consumers. Please see the CDSS Career Pathways Page and ACL 02-24 for more information. Classes will no longer be offered effective September 17, 2024.

Program Goals

  • Recruit, train, and retain a network of high-skilled care workers
  • Improve consumer experience and care outcomes
  • Support a career ladder that allows care workers to build their skills and opportunities for career advancement

There are five pathways of training available for IHSS providers

General Pathways

  • General Health and Safety for Caregivers
  • Adult Education

Specialized Pathways

  • Cognitive Impairments and Behavioral Health
  • Complex Physical Care Needs
  • Transitioning into In-Home Care

Incentive Payments

Providers who choose to participate receive up to $3,500 for the time in training and may qualify for payments for completing training in particular areas. IHSS and WPCS providers must submit Training and Incentive claims by November 15, 2024. Claims will be processed by December 31, 2024.
